He was also in one case friends with Blue, the grandson of Pallet Boondocks'due south local Pokémon expert, Professor Oak but as revealed via the educational activity manuels, Ruddy gained an involvement in Pokémon once Blue stopped playing with him, instead choosing to brainstorm bullying him instead. However, this contradicts Professor Oak's claim in the games that the two have in fact been rivals since they were both infants.

I day, as Ruby-red prepares to leave his home to begin his Pokémon journey, he is stopped from leaving the boondocks by Oak who tells him he needs a Pokémon for his own protection. During his journey, Red learns of a grouping of Pokémon thieves called Squad Rocket. He commencement meets them when they're searching for and attempting to steal fossils inside Mt. Moon.

Upon arriving in Cerulean City, Red heads north to the Nugget Bridge on Kanto Route 24 and defeats the Trainers with the final one being a Squad Rocket Grunt who was hoping to recruit new members for the arrangement.
